Dura-Bond Industries has filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act filing with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor this week, which may affect up to 180 workers at its pipe mill in Steelton, Pennsylvania. Shifts are being reduced in correlation with lower output requirements, and some layoffs will begin as early as November 2017, according to information received by SteelOrbis. Management is seeking further contracts and business to delay layoffs, but the filing was necessary to give the state required notification of potential actions.
Dura-Bond is one of several pipe line producers that has included its name in petitions to the Trump administration to move forward with the Section 232 investigation. According to the American Line Pipe Producers Association (ALPPA), the large line pipe industry is operating at approximately 30 percent of total capacity and is at high risk of further site closures due to claims of “dumped pipe from South Korea, India, Turkey, Greece and Canada."
Dura-Bond Industries operates four wholly-owned companies that operate in four separate sites in the state of Pennsylvania. Dura-Bond Steel, Inc. fabricates structural steel for the marine and heavy highway markets in the city of Export. Dura-Bond Pipe, LLC manufactures steel line pipe in sizes 24”-42” in Steelton site. Dura Bond Pipe McKeesport LLC manufactures ERW Steel Line Pipe from 4″-20″. Dura-Bond Coating, Inc. based in Duquense, applies fusion bond epoxy to steel pipe 4”-36” in diameter and extruded polyethylene coatings to pipe 1” through 20” in diameter.
