Drilling rigs increase slightly in US and drop in Canada

Baker Hughes reported Friday that for the week ending October 19, the US rig count increased by four to 1,839, following a 2-rig drop in the past week. Year-on-year, the US rig count is down 174 rigs. Rigs searching for natural gas increased by five to 427 after decreasing slightly last week. The gas-directed rig count is down by 500 from the same week a year ago. The oil-rig count, on the other hand, decreased by one to 1,410 over the past week, and the number of oil rigs is up 331 from a year ago.

Canada's rig count fell by six to 355 after decreasing by 11 a week ago. The rig count is down 142 year-on-year.
