It has been reported that Hamilton, Ontario-based steelmaker Dofasco has signed a contract with Mercedes to supply steel to the automaker's Tuscaloosa, Alabama-based plant.
Initially, Dofasco will provide 4,000 net tons of coated steel for parts inside the Mercedes M-class SUV, according to the Hamilton Spectator, a Canadian newspaper.
The first shipments will be transported to Mercedes by rail in September, a source at Dofasco revealed to the Spectator.
Dofasco currently supplies to Honda, Toyota, GM, Ford, BMW and Chrysler. Dofasco also currently supplies about 200,000 mt annually to Mercedes' European operation.
