Dneprovsky Iron and Steel Works named after F. Dzerzhinsky (DMKD), a subsidiary of the Ukrainian steelmaker Industrial Union of Donbass (
ISD), plans in 2011 to invest UAH 312 million ($39.1 million) in the development of its production facilities, up from UAH 200 million ($25.1 million) invested in 2010.
As SteelOrbis previously reported, in late January this year DMKD commissioned its new seven-stranded continuous caster No. 3 with a capacity of 1.4 million mt of billets per year.
Currently, DMKD is continuing the construction of its new ladle furnace No. 2 with a 2.3 million mt annual capacity. The estimated cost of the unit's construction is about UAH 203 million ($25.44 million), of which more than UAH 66 million ($8.3 million) has already been invested. The new ladle furnace is planned to be commissioned in late 2011-early 2012.
In addition, DMKD is carrying out the construction of a filter-compensating unit to ensure stable operation of its ladle furnace No. 1, commissioned in 2009, and is also building its new ladle furnace No. 2. The estimated project cost is UAH 72.3 million ($9.1 million), of which UAH 12.2 million ($1.53 million) has already been invested.
Also in 2011, DMKD plans to resume the reconstruction of its section rolling shop, the first stage of which will include the construction of a new rebar and wire rod mill of one million mt annual capacity. The first phase of the project is estimated at UAH 1.2 billion ($150.4 million).
Within the scope of its reconstruction and reequipment project, in 2011 DMKD plans to purchase equipment for a vacuum degasser in its converter shop, as well as to implement feasibility studies and develop a project for the upgrade of its sinter plant, in order to increase its capacity and reduce emissions.
