Mexican steelmaker Deacero has started up a 500,000 mt/year flexible rolling mill for bars and light sections, according to industry supplier Danieli.

The new equipment commenced operations on September 7, following a 20-month project execution and construction, Danieli said in mid-September. The rolling mill equipment can now produce rebar, rounds and squares, as well as merchant bar including angles, channels, flat products and T-profiles.

Danieli said the 20-pass mill is fed with 160mm and 180mm square billets in cold charge and hot charge modes with direct transfer from the conticaster. Danieli said this is the company’s fourth mini-mill installed at Deacero, comprising a total of eight rolling mills for bars, wire rod and merchant bars.
