Italian plantmaker Danieli has announced that it will supply a new steelmaking plant for Iraq-based company United Brothers Holding for the production of billets. The plant, which will be installed within an existing building in the industrial area of Khor Al Zubair, near Basra, is expected to be commissioned by the summer of 2019.

According to Danieli, the new steelmaking plant, which will have an annual production capacity of 500,000 mt of billets, will consist of an electric arc furnace, a ladle furnace, a material handling system serving the electric arc furnace and ladle furnace with ferroalloys and additives, a fume dedusting plant filtering both of the furnaces and a four-strand continuous caster machine, which will produce 150 mm x 150 mm square billets.

United Brothers Holding will act as agent for the Iraqi Ministry of Industry, which will manage the entire mini-mill plant.
