CVRD to sell ferromanganese alloys to Corus

Brazilian mining giant Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD) has announced that it has signed a deal with one of its major iron ore client's, Anglo-Dutch steel producer Corus to supply ferromanganese alloys for three years with annual deliveries of 30'000 tons. According to market reports, this contract represents a major change in the relationship between ferroalloys and steel producers, as ferroalloys had previously been supplied through spot market transactions. This change is advantageous for both parties as it enables the optimization of production planning. The ferromanganese alloys will be delivered to Corus by CVRD's European subsidiaries, Rio Doce Manganese Europe (RDME), located in Dunkerque, France and Rio Doce Manganese Norway (RDMN), located in Mo I Rana, Norway. The contract involves medium carbon ferromanganese alloys (MCFeMn), high carbon ferromanganese alloys (HCFeMn) and ferro silico manganese alloys (FeSiMn).
