CST, Belgo and Sun Coal & Coke to build coke plant

Brazilian Companhia Siderurgica de Tubarao (CST), Siderurgica Belgo Mineira (Belgo) and Sun Coal & Coke Company (SUN) have recently signed an agreement to establish a joint venture coke plant, called Sun Coqueria Tubarao in the state of Espirito Santo. The new plant, which will have an annual metallurgical coke production capacity of 1.55 million tons, is scheduled to be operational in July 2006. For the establishment of the coke plant, an investment of $380 million will be made. With the new coke plant, CST expects its slab production to increase from the current 5 million tons to 7.5 million tons.
