CSN may build new blast furnace

Brazilian steel producer Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (CSN) is looking into setting up a new blast furnace as a part of its capacity expansion plans, sources report. The company will make its final decision on the issue some time during the first half of the current fiscal year. If the decision to build a new blast furnace is made, the construction will reportedly take 30 months. Possible locations for the blast furnace are Sepetiba, Volta Redonda and near company's Casa de Pedra iron ore mine. CSN annually produces 6 million tons of steel products; however, the proposed capacity expansion plans would boost annual production to 8 million tons.
