Brazil imported 27,500 mt of CRC in April, against 26,500 mt in March, according to the country’s ministry of industry, foreign trade and services, MDIC.
It is the second consecutive increase, since 4,200 mt of CRC were imported in February. China was the main origin (14,600 mt at $612/mt), followed by Russia (10,100 mt at $569/mt), South Korea (1,300 mt at $715/mt) and Sweden (900 mt at $828/mt), all FOB conditions.
Most of the volume was imported by states located far from the steel producers in the southeast of Brazil, such as Piaui in the northeastern region (11,900 mt) and Amazon in the northern region (10,200 mt), reflecting logistics hurdles to move steel internally at long distances, when ship transportation is not easily available.
Meanwhile, Brazil exported in April 25,500 mt of CRC to the EU at $647/mt and 4,700 mt to South America at $781/mt, both FOB conditions with price deals probably closed in February.
