CONSOL produces 1.2 million mt of metallurgical coal in Q4

On January 11, West Virginia, US-based, CONSOL Energy, a producer of metallurgical coal among other fuel products, reported total coal production of 16.8 million mt for the quarter ended December 31, 2010. Included in the total was 1.2 million mt of low-volatile metallurgical coal produced by the company's Buchanan Mine.

The total production was the highest of any quarter in 2010 and lifted total 2010 production to 62.4 million mt, including 4.5 million mt of low-volatile metallurgical coal from Buchanan.

CONSOL is the largest producer of high-Btu (British thermal unit) bituminous coal in the United States and a leader in the production of coal-bed methane gas.
