In the January-April period this year, the volume of coke exports from China's Shanxi Province indicated a year-on-year decrease of 6.8 percent, with a value of RMB 340 million ($54.8 million), down 31.5 percent year on year, according to the customs authorities in Taiyuan, the capital city of Shanxi.
Since the beginning of 2015, most coke producers in Shanxi have cut their production activity in order to limit their losses amid the downtrend of coke prices.
As the largest coke production base in the world, Shanxi Province accounts for 40 percent of coke output in China and 18 percent of global coke output. However, due to slower demand in the Chinese domestic finished steel market, conditions in the coking industry in Shanxi Province have become more difficult.
