Coal exports from PWCS up 1.5 percent in January-November

Coal exports from the Port Waratah Coal Services (PWCS) terminals based at Port of Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia, totaled 9.02 million mt in November this year, increasing by 0.2 percent compared to October, according to the company's announcement. 12 percent of the total coal handled at the terminals was coking coal.

In the first 11 months of this year, coking coal exports constituted 12 percent of overall coal exports from PWCS, which totaled 101.17 million mt, increasing by 1.5 percent as compared to the same period last year.

According to the released information, Japan was the largest export destination for coal shipments from PWCS in the first 10 months of the year, with shipments to Japan accounting for 44.9 percent of total shipments, while coal exports to China constituted 23.2 percent of the total.

PWCS accounts for one third of Australia's exports of coal, which is the country's second most important export commodity in terms of value.
