Coal exports from Australia’s Newcastle port decline slightly

In the week ended October 15, coal shipments from the Port of Newcastle in Queensland, the coal producing state of Australia, totaled 2.37 million mt, according to Newcastle Port Corporation. The figure constitutes a slight decrease of 1.2 percent compared to the previous week, following a week-on-week decrease of 20 percent recorded in the week ended October 8.

In the period October 1-15, Newcastle port exported 5.43 million mt of thermal and coking coal, while the port authority has forecast that Newcastle port will ship a total of 12 million mt for the whole of October.

Anglo American, Peabody Energy, Rio Tinto and Xstrata are some of the larger exporters to ship coal from Newcastle port.
