Coal export tops 2.89 million tons in Shanxi Province

According to the latest statistics, Shanxi province exported 2.89 million tons of coal through the first quarter of 2005, with 18% year-on-year increase. The value of exports reached $157 million, rising by 84.10% compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, the average coal export price increased 10.78% and reached $54.35/ton against last year's $49.06/ton price. Korea, Japan, India and Philippines have been the major coal export destination of Shanxi province with quantities reaching 1.34 million tons, 601'700 tons, 364'800 tons and 258'200 tons respectively, and accounted for 88.81% of Shanxi Province's total coal exports in Q1 of 2005. Furthermore, Shanxi exported 1.89 million tons of coke, valuing $400 million through Q1 of 2005. The figures show 79.88% and 57.28% year-on-year increases respectively. However, the average coke export price dropped 22.5% year-on-year from $276.34/ton in 2004 to $213.93/ton, in accordance with the stable price dropping trend. For detail, the average coke export price stayed at $209.68/ton in last December, while it reached $218.90/ton, $211.23/ton and $207.07/ton through January-March 2005, respectively.
