According to the data released by the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA), as of the end of April (April 30) this year, the composite steel price index (CSPI) for the Chinese domestic market was at 112.67 points, up 2.98 points or 2.72 percent month on month, while increasing by 0.17 points or 0.15 percent on year-on-year basis.
At the end of April, the CSPI long steel index was at 119.44 points, up 3.99 points or 3.46 percent month on month and increasing by 3.05 points or 2.62 percent year on year, while the CSPI flat steel index stood at 108.72 points, increasing by 2.41 points or 2.27 percent month on month and down 0.1 points or 0.09 percent year on year.
As of the end of April, among the eight main steel products monitored by the CISA, prices of high-speed wire rod, rebar, medium plate, hot rolled coil (HRC), cold rolled sheet (CRS) and hot dip galvanized (HDG) increased by RMB 173/mt ($25.1/mt), RMB 192/mt ($27.9/mt), RMB 100mt ($14.5/mt), RMB 136/mt ($19.8/mt), RMB 16/mt ($2.3/mt), and RMB 15/mt ($2.2/mt), while prices of angles and hot rolled seamless pipe decreased by RMB 12/mt ($1.7/mt) and RMB 40/mt ($5.8/mt), respectively, all compared to price levels at the end of March.
