According to the data released by the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA), as of the end of March (March 31) this year the composite steel price index (CSPI) for the Chinese domestic market was at 101.81 points, down 4.41 points or 4.15 percent month on month, while increasing by 32.94 points or 47.83 percent on year-on-year basis.
At the end of March, the CSPI long steel index was at 107.22 points, down 1.13 points or 1.04 percent month on month and increasing by 38.94 points or 57.03 percent year on year, while the CSPI flat steel index stood at 99.09 points, down 8.45 points or 7.86 percent month on month and increasing by 27.83 points or 39.05 percent year on year.
As of the end of March this year, among the eight main steel products monitored by the CISA, prices of wire rod, rebar, angles, cold rolled sheet (CRS), medium plate, hot rolled coil (HRC) and hot dip galvanized (HDG) decreased by RMB 40/mt ($5.81/mt), RMB 12/mt ($1.74/mt), RMB 13/mt ($1.89/mt), RMB 605/mt ($87.94/mt), RMB 140/mt ($20.35/mt), RMB 364/mt ($52.91/mt) and RMB 219/mt ($31.83/mt), respectively, while the prices of seamless pipe increased by RMB 55/mt ($7.99/mt), all compared to price levels at the end of February of current year.
