According to the data released by the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA), as of the end of March (March 31) the composite steel price index (CSPI) for the Chinese domestic market was at 108.67 points, down 6.56 points or 5.69 percent month on month, while increasing by 6.86 points or 6.74 percent on year-on-year basis.
At the end of March, the CSPI long steel index was at 111.22 points, down 9.14 points or 7.59 percent month on month and increasing by 4.0 points or 3.73 percent year on year, while the CSPI flat steel index stood at 107.42 points, decreasing by 5.15 points or 4.57 percent month on month and up 8.33 points or 8.41 percent year on year.
As of the end of March, among the eight main steel products monitored by the CISA, prices of high-speed wire rod, rebar, angles, medium plate, hot rolled coil (HRC),cold rolled sheet (CRS), hot dip galvanized (HDG) and hot rolled seamless pipe decreased by RMB 367/mt ($58.4/mt), RMB 394/mt ($62.7/mt), RMB 120/mt ($19.1/mt), RMB 24/mt ($3.8/mt), RMB 277/mt ($44.1/mt), RMB 223/mt ($35.5/mt), RMB 107/mt ($17.1/mt) and RMB 65/mt ($10.3/mt), all compared to price levels at the end of February this year.
