In the January-October period of the current year, Turkey's steel exports increased by 15.5 percent year on year to 16.8 million mt, while the value of these exports totaled $12.4 billion, up 35.2 percent on year-on-year basis, according to the data released by the Turkish Steel Exporters' Association (CIB).
In the first ten months of this year, export volumes of hot rolled flat steel products, rebar and wire rod showed the highest year-on-year increases, while the biggest decreases were seen in export volumes of slab, alloyed wire and alloyed wire rod respectively.
In October, Turkey's steel exports increased by 46.3 percent year on year to 2.2 million mt, while the value of these exports totaled $1.49 billion, up 46.9 percent on year-on-year basis.
CIB chairman Adnan Aslan mentioned the CIB’s upcoming trade visit to Colombia, saying that they were aiming to increase exports to Latin America. Aslan said that in the first ten months of 2018 Turkish exports to Latin America amounted to 1.1 million mt, up 8.4 percent, with 167,000 mt to Chile, 134,000 mt to Panama and 117,000 mt to Colombia.
In the given period, the products Turkey exported to the region most was rebar (508,000 mt), sections (221,000 mt) and wire rod (105,000 mt).
