Chinese special steel demand for wind power projects set to rise

In China's 12th five-year plan period (2011-15), domestic special steel demand for wind power projects is expected to total 1.4 million mt.
 
In 2015, China's total installed wind power electricity generation capacity will reach 90 million kW, rising to 150 million kW in 2020. At the end of 2010, wind power electricity generation capacity in China stood at 44 million kW.
 
Steel consumption for one 10,000 kW wind turbine totals 1,130 mt. Heavy plate accounts for 69 percent of this total, with special steel accounting for 26 percent.
