China’s foreign trade value down 1.6 percent in January-May

In the January-May period this year, China’s total foreign trade value amounted to $1.786 trillion, indicating a year-on-year decline of 1.6 percent, as announced by the Chinese customs authorities on June 10. In the given period, the total value of China’s exports amounted to $958.34 billion, increasing by 0.4 percent year on year, while Chinese imports totaled $827.87 billion in value, declining by 3.7 percent year on year, resulting in a trade surplus of $130.47 billion.

In May, China’s total foreign trade value amounted to $386.03 billion, down 3.4 percent year on year. In particular, the total value of China’s exports amounted to $213.85 billion, increasing by 1.1 percent year on year, while Chinese imports totaled $172.19 billion in value, declining by 8.5 percent year on year, resulting in a trade surplus of $41.66 billion.
