China’s steel imports down in February

China's General Customs Administration disclosed that the country's finished steel imports totaled 1.59 million tons in February 2005, down 330'000 tons from the previous month. China's finished steel exports remained unchanged at 1.49 million tons last month. The country imported 150'000 tons of slabs in February, up 50'000 tons, and exported 840'000 tons, up 280'000 tons. China's total steel imports amounted to 3.51 million tons in the first two months of the year, down 46.9%. On the other hand, steel exports reached 2.98 million tons, up 205.3%. For the first two months of 2005, slab imports fell 74.6% to 260'000 tons while exports rose 715% to 1.4 million tons.
