China’s steel bar imports down 12.6 percent in January-July

In July this year, China’s import volume of angles/channels and steel plate amounted to 30,000 mt and 860,000 mt, up 11.1 percent and 5.5 percent year on year, while its import volumes of steel bars and steel pipes/hollow profiles respectively amounted to 90,000 mt and 30,000 mt, down 2.8 percent and 8.7 percent year on year, according to the monthly import and export data issued by the Chinese customs authorities.

In the January-July period of the current year, China’s import volumes of steel bars and angles/channels respectively amounted to 640,000 mt and 220,000 mt, down 12.6 percent and 5.9 percent year on year, while imports of steel plate and steel pipes/hollow profiles totaled 6.48 million mt and 240,000 mt, up 0.2 percent and 2.4 percent year on year.

As previously reported by SteelOrbis, in July, China imported 1.03 million mt of finished steel, down 1.25 percent month on month and increasing by 4.8 percent year on year. In the January-July period of this year, China imported 7.7 million mt of finished steel, down 1.1 percent year on year.
