China’s steel bar imports down 10.6 percent in January-February

In February this year, China’s import volumes of steel bars, steel pipes/hollow profiles, steel plate and angles/channels respectively amounted to 70,000 mt, 20,000 mt, 900,000 mt and 20,000 mt, down 28.9 percent, 1.4 percent, 1.8 percent and 41.0 percent year on year, according to the monthly import and export data issued by the Chinese customs authorities.

In the January-February period of the current year, China’s import volumes of steel bars and steel plate amounted to 160,000 mt and 60,000 mt, down 10.6 percent and 1.1 percent year on year, respectively, while its angles/channels and steel pipes/hollow profiles imports amounted to 60,000 mt and 1.9 million mt, rising by 5.9 percent and 2.7 percent year on year, respectively.

As previously reported by SteelOrbis, in February this year China imported 1.027 million mt of finished steel, down 13.8 percent month on month and decreasing by 5.8 percent year on year. In the January-February period of the current year, China imported 2.218 million mt of finished steel, up 1.6 percent year on year.
