China’s steel bar imports down 10.6 percent in January-August

In August this year, China’s import volume of steel bars and steel plate amounted to 80,000 mt and 890,000 mt, up 4.6 percent and 10.3 percent year on year, respectively, while its import volumes of angles/channels and steel pipes/hollow profiles respectively amounted to 30,000 mt and 30,000 mt, down 22.0 percent and 11.7 percent year on year, according to the monthly import and export data issued by the Chinese customs authorities.

In the January-August period of the current year, China’s import volumes of steel bars, and angles/channels respectively amounted to 730,000 mt and 240,000 mt, down 10.6 percent and 7.9 percent year on year, while imports of steel plate and steel pipes/hollow profiles totaled 7.37 million mt and 270,000 mt, up 1.3 percent and 0.5 percent year on year.

As previously reported by SteelOrbis, in August this year China imported 1.064 million mt of finished steel, up 3.6 percent month on month and increasing by 7.5 percent year on year. In the January-August period of this year, China imported 8.762 million mt of finished steel, down 0.1 percent year on year.
