China’s steel bar imports down 10.4 percent in January-September

In September this year, China’s import volumes of steel bars, angles/channels and steel plate amounted to 90,000 mt, 30,000 mt and 1.03 million mt, down 8.5 percent, 25.6 percent and 1.5 percent year on year, respectively, while its import volumes of steel pipes/hollow profiles amounted to 40,000 mt, up 5.1 percent year on year, according to the monthly import and export data issued by the Chinese customs authorities.

In the January-September period of the current year, China’s import volumes of steel bars, and angles/channels respectively amounted to 820,000 mt and 270,000 mt, down 10.4 percent and 10.0 percent year on year, while imports of steel plate and steel pipes/hollow profiles totaled 8.4 million mt and 310,000 mt, up 0.9 percent and 1.2 percent year on year.

As previously reported by SteelOrbis, in September this year China imported 1.2 million mt of finished steel, down 2.6 percent year on year. In the January-September period of this year, China imported 9.97 million mt of finished steel, down 0.4 percent year on year.
