China’s steel bar exports down 31.0 percent in January-May

In May this year, China’s export volumes of steel bars and steel plate amounted to 1.44 million mt and 3.87 million mt, decreasing by 5.7 percent and 0.9 percent, respectively, year on year, while exports of angles/channels and wire rod amounted to 330,000 mt and 220,000 mt, up 3.7 percent and 12.0 percent, respectively, year on year.

In the January-May period of the current year, China's export volumes of steel bars, angles/channels and steel plate amounted to 5.78 million mt, 1.45 million mt, and 16.23 million mt, down 31.0 percent, 15.3 percent, and 13.3 percent year on year, respectively, while wire rod exports totaled 870,000 mt, up 4.8 percent year on year, according to the Chinese customs authorities. 

In May this year, China exported 6.883 million mt of finished steel, increasing by 6.1 percent year on year, in the January-May period of the current year, China exported 28.493 million mt of finished steel, down 16.3 percent year on year, as previously announced by the Chinese customs authorities.
