In the January-June period this year, the aggregate shipbuilding output in China amounted to 26.54 million dead weight tons (dwt), up 57.4 percent year on year, as announced by the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI). In the given period, China’s new ship orders amounted to 11.51 million dwt, decreasing by 29 percent year on year. As of the end of June, ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 82.84 million dwt, down 30.5 percent year on year and decreasing by 16.8 percent compared to the end of 2016.
In the January-June period this year, the aggregate shipbuilding output for export orders in China totaled 25.13 million dead weight tons (dwt), up 60.7 percent year on year and accounting for 94.7 percent of the total shipbuilding output in China in the given period. Meanwhile, China’s new ship export orders in the period in question amounted to 10.15 million dwt, decreasing by 29.1 percent year on year and constituting 88.2 percent of total new ship orders. As of the end of June, ship export orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 76.71 million dwt, down 32.1 percent year on year and constituting 92.6 percent of total ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises.
