In the January-September period this year, the aggregate shipbuilding output in China amounted to 35.15 million dead weight tons (dwt), up 41.0 percent year on year, as announced by the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI). In the given period, China’s new ship orders amounted to 20.13 million dwt, increasing by 8.7 percent year on year. As of the end of September, ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 81.23 million dwt, down 25.7 percent year on year and decreasing by 18.5 percent compared to the end of 2016.
In the January-September period this year, the aggregate shipbuilding output for export orders in China totaled 32.79 million dead weight tons (dwt), up 43.3 percent year on year and accounting for 93.3 percent of the total shipbuilding output in China in the given period. Meanwhile, China’s new ship export orders in the period in question amounted to 18.3 million dwt, increasing by 21.5 percent year on year and constituting 90.9 percent of total new ship orders. As of the end of September, ship export orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 75.54 million dwt, down 26.2 percent year on year and constituting 93.0 percent of total ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises.
