In the January-February period this year, the aggregate shipbuilding output in China amounted to 6.63 million dead weight tons (dwt), down 29.2 percent year on year, as announced by the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI). In the given period, China’s new ship orders amounted to 12.29 million dwt, increasing by 456 percent year on year. As of the end of February, ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 92.89 million dwt, up 0.9 percent year on year and increasing by 6.5 percent compared to the end of 2017.
In the January-February period this year, the aggregate shipbuilding output for export orders in China totaled 6.24 million dead weight tons (dwt), down 31.2 percent year on year and accounting for 94.1 percent of the total shipbuilding output in China in the given period. Meanwhile, China’s new ship export orders in the period in question amounted to 10.95 million dwt, increasing by 473 percent year on year and constituting 89.1 percent of total new ship orders. As of the end of February, ship export orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 84.81 million dwt, up 0.9 percent year on year and constituting 91.3 percent of total ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises.
