China’s shipbuilding output down 18.5 percent in Jan-Sept

According to the figures released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), in the January-September period of this year the aggregate shipbuilding output in China totaled 41.58 million deadweight tons (dwt), down 18.5 percent year on year.
 
In the given period, China’s new ship orders amounted to 15.41 million dwt, down 46.9 percent year on year. As of the end of September, ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 120.9 million dwt, down 19.4 percent compared with the end of 2011.
