China’s May CPI up slightly over previous year

Data from China's National Statistics Bureau show that May's consumer price index (CPI), which rose 1.8% year on year, remained unchanged from April. For the first five months of 2005, China's CPI rose 2.4% year on year; growth had been 2.6% through the first four months. A tapering off in food prices offset pressure from high oil and commodity prices. Food prices rose 2.8% on a yearly basis.
