China's industrial production increased 16% in April

China's National Bureau of Statistics reported that the industrial production of the country rose 16.2% year on year to RMB 2.02 trillion in the first four months of 2005. The increase was 18.2% in the same period of 2004. The industrial production increased 16% year on year in April and reached RMB 564.7 billion. The increase was 19.1% in 2004. In April, the country's raw steel production increased 25.4% and the steel product output increased 23.7%. Pig iron production increased 34.4%, while raw coal production climbed up 5.4%. The overall heavy industry production of China increased 15.5% year on year and reached RMB 391.3 billion. The exports of industrial enterprises rose by 29.9% to RMB 379.2 billion. Major economists had predicted a lower increase than the actual one.
