China’s industrial output in steel industry up 6.1 percent in May

In May this year, value-added industrial output in the ferrous metal smelting and rolling sector in China posted a 6.1 percent increase year on year, indicating a rise of 1.5 percentage points compared to the 4.6 percent rise recorded in April this year amid good demand from downstream users, as announced by China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

China's overall value-added industrial output increased by 4.4 percent year on year in May, 0.5 percentage points higher compared to 3.9 percent year-on-year rise recorded in April, while the overall value-added industrial output increased by 1.53 percent month on month in May, according to the same source. China's overall value-added industrial output decreased by 2.8 percent year on year in the first five months of the year.

In May, of the 41 industrial sectors in China, 30 witnessed year-on-year increases in value-added industrial output. In May, outputs in the mining and manufacturing sectors increased by 1.1 percent and 5.2 percent, year on year.
