UK-based plantmaker Primetals Technologies has announced that the Chinese steel producer HBIS Laoting Steel Co. Ltd has ordered a new two-strand continuous slab caster.

The casting plant will have a capacity of 2 million metric tons of slabs per year and will form part of a new production facility for high-quality steels being built in the Laoting district in the southeast of the autonomous city of Tangshan.

Two slab casters were already ordered in 2017 and will start operation in 2019. This third continuous slab caster is scheduled for commissioning in February 2020.
