According to an emergency notice issued by the government of China’s Guizhou Province, in order to draw lessons from the December 17 coal and gas outburst accident at Guanglong coal mine in Anlong county, the government has further strengthened safety in coal mining, suspending coal mine production capacities below 300,000 mt per year with immediately effect.

The coal and gas outburst accident at Guanglong coal mine resulted in 16 fatalities.

Since the start of this year, of the coal mine accidents in Guizhou, eight happened at coal mines with production capacities below 300,000 mt per year.

The suspension of the capacities in question will reduce supply of coal to the market and bolster coal prices.
