China’s finished steel exports rebound in June

The latest data released by Chinese customs show that national exports of finished steel in June totaled 1.43 million mt, up 80,000 mt or 5.9 percent month on month and down 3.79 million mt or 72.6 percent year on year. From January to June, China's total exports of finished steel reached 9.34 million mt, down 17.6 million mt or 65.35 percent year on year.

Meanwhile, China's imports of finished steel for June totaled 1.63 million mt, down 20,000 mt or 1.2 percent month on month and up 370,000 mt or 29.4 percent year on year. In the January-June period, imports of finished steel totaled 8.13 million mt, down 150,000 mt or 1.8 percent year on year.

In June, China's net imports of finished steel stood at 200,000 mt; while the net imports of finished steel from January to June reached 1.21 million mt.

China's semis exports in June totaled 10,000 mt following an export volume of almost zero in the previous five months. Thus, in the January-June period semis exports totaled 10,000 mt, down 120,000 mt or 92.3 percent year on year. Meanwhile, semis imports in June stood at 380,000 mt, down 320,000 mt or 45.7 percent month on month and up 360,000 mt year on year. Total imports of the subject product in the January-June period stood at 2.65 million mt, up 2.55 million mt year on year.

As a result, China's net imports of semi finished steel in June amounted to 370,000 mt. In the first six months of this year, net semis imports reached 2.64 million mt.

China's crude steel export volume in June reached 1.52 million mt; meanwhile, net imports of crude steel in June came to 580,000 mt. Net imports of crude steel in the January-June period totaled 1.37 million mt.

Meanwhile, China's coke exports reached 30,000 mt in the month of June, down 1.47 million mt or 98 percent year on year. From January to June, total coke exports amounted to 230,000 mt, down 7.21 million mt or 96.9 percent.

China's iron ore imports in June totaled 55.29 million mt, up 17.5 million mt or 46.3 percent year on year. From January to June, iron ore imports came to 297.18 million mt, up 67.14 million mt or 29.2 percent compared with the same period last year.
