According to the latest statistics released by Chinese customs, in January this year China exported 2.89 million mt of finished steel, dropping by 450,000 mt month on month and up 51.31 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, China imported 1.35 million mt of finished steel in the period in question, down 130,000 mt month on month and up 55.17 percent year on year. In January, China's semis imports totaled 30,000 mt, decreasing by 60,000 mt compared with December 2009, while its semis exports in January amounted to 10,000 mt.
In addition, during the month in question, China exported 40,000 mt of coke, down 50 percent year on year and imported 62 million mt of iron ore, down 15.54 million mt month on month and up 42.79 percent year on year.
