China to quadruple GDP by 2020

In his address during the inauguration ceremony of 2005 Fortune Global Forum in Beijing, Chinese President Hu Jintao said China was planning to four-fold its GDP to $4 trillion by 2020, with the per capita income reaching $3,000. The president also stated that the number of poor people in the country was reduced dramatically from 250 million in 1978 to 26 million nowadays. President Jintao added that China would continue opening its market to foreign investments, finding new ways to make use of foreign capital, improving the rules and regulations in order to encoure and protect foreign investors, accelerate the protection of intellectual property rights, and work harder to help foreign investors to create a better environment for trade and cooperation between China and the rest of the world.
