China restricts scrap imports on environmental issues

The State Environmental Protection Administration (SEPA) of China announced that the administration would further try to restrict scrap iron and steel imports due to environmental reasons. SEPA will grant the scrap iron and steel import rights so long as the pollution control requirements and industrial production standards are fulfilled. The administration will also ask scrap metal importers to report the effects of their imports on environment. Steel companies will be permitted to import scrap cast iron, scrap steel alloy, scrap tin-coated steel, scrap processed steel product and steel ingot fragment for remelting which are also listed in the country's automatic import license system.
