China may lift coke export quotas’

Market sources report that traders and certain industry officials attending Metal Bulletin's China Iron Ore 2005 Conference suggested that the Chinese government may be planning to lift coke export quotas in 2006. Several trades indicated that tariff barriers or capacity restrictions on coke may be implemented in lieu of export quotas. China's 2005 coke export quota is 14 million tons, which is 1 million tons less than what it allowed in 2004.
