Chile’s bulk, pellet iron ore exports decrease in 2014

Chilean exports of bulk, pellet iron ore decreased in 2014 in value, according to data released on Thursday by the nation's Copper Commission (Cochilco).

According to Cochilco, bulk iron exports in 2014 reached $1 billion in terms of value, 13.6 percent down year-on-year from $1.1 billion. Following the same downtrend, pellet iron exports declined 36.8 percent in value to $131.4 million in 2014, from $208.2 million a year ago.

According to Cochilco data, bulk iron exports in 2014 reached 13 million mt, 21.2 percent up from 10.7 million mt in 2013, while pellet iron exports totaled 1 million, down 28.5 percent, year-on-year.

Scrap exports in 2014 reached 2 million mt, Cochilco said.
