The Chilean mining sector is operating regularly following violent protests that resulted in the local government declaring a state of emergency. Protests started days ago, after the local government announced in increase in transportation costs.
Chilean mining minister Baldo Prokurica told Reuters companies have taken measures to guarantee shift workers could enter mines despite countrywide transportation blockages.
Key mining companies in Chile include BHP Group Ltd, Anglo American Plc and local iron ore producer CAP Group.
The Chilean government has also announced a curfew in several areas of the country, including Tarapacá, Atacama, Coquimbo, O’Higgins, BioBio, Valparaiso and Santiago.
