Mechel, one of the leading Russian mining and steelmaking companies, has announced that its subsidiary Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant has switched to a special operation mode for the period of unfavorable meteorological conditions (i.e., smog), explaining that with the help of this measure emissions into the atmosphere will be reduced.

The company reports that it has shut down the operation of a number of production shops, while transportation at the Chelyabinsk metallurgical plant has been restricted. The plant has strengthened its control over operation of dust and gas cleaning equipment.
