Capacity replacement details issued for Baosteel Zhanjiang Steel

Chinese steel producer Baosteel’s Zhanjiang Steel production base has issued the capacity replacement details relating to one 5,050 cubic meter iron-smelting blast furnace and one 350 mt converter to be built at the Zhanjiang Steel production base, and the planned elimination of one 1,280 cubic meter iron-smelting blast furnace, one 2,500 cubic meter iron-smelting blast furnace, one 750 cubic meter iron-smelting blast furnace, two 150 mt converters and one 120 mt converter, owned by Shanghai-based Chinese steelmaker Meishan Iron and Steel Co. (Meishan Steel) and Baosteel Stainless Steel Co., Ltd.

Accordingly, the new 5,050 cubic meter iron-smelting blast furnace and the 350 mt steelmaking converter will together have an annual iron-smelting capacity of 4.02 million mt and a steelmaking capacity of 3.625 million mt, replacing the old blast furnaces and converters of Meishan Steel and Baosteel Stainless Steel which have an overall annual iron-smelting capacity of 4.03 million mt and a steelmaking capacity of 3.63 million mt.
