Baker Hughes has reported that for the week ending January 19 the US rotary rig count decreased by three to 936 rigs following a 15-rig increase the week before. The number of rigs drilling for gas increased by two to 189 while the number of rigs drilling for oil decreased by five to 747. The overall rig count is now up by 242 rigs in a year-on-year comparison.
Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count increased by 49 to 325 rigs in the week ending January 19 following a 102-rig increase the week before. The Canadian rig count is still down by 17 rigs from the same week a year ago.
