Canadian rig count surges while US count declines again week-on-week

Baker Hughes has reported that for the week ending January 10, the US rotary rig count decreased by 15 to 781 rigs following a nine-rig decrease the week before. The number of rigs drilling for gas decreased by four to 119, while the number of rigs drilling for oil decreased by 11 to 659. The overall rig count is now down by 294 rigs in a year-on-year comparison.

Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count surged up by 118 to 203 rigs in the week ending January 10, following a 14-rig decrease the week before. The Canadian rig count is now up by 19 rigs compared to the same week a year ago.
