According to Statistics Canada, total new motor vehicle sales in December totaled 127,734 units, reflecting a decrease of 21.1 percent month-on-month and a decrease of 0.5 percent year-on-year. By value, Canadian vehicle sales in December totaled $5.53 billion, compared to $6.76 billion in November and $5.27 billion in December 2016.
Canadian sales of vehicles manufactured in North America totaled 96,742 units in December at a value of $4.25 billion, while sales of vehicles manufactured overseas totaled 30,992 units at a value of $1.28 billion.
For the full-year 2017, Canadian new vehicles sales totaled 2,076,970 units, a 4.7 percent increase from the 1,983,745 units sold in 2016. By value, Canadian new vehicles sales totaled $83.6 billion, compared to $76.1 billion in 2016.
Canadian sales of vehicles manufactured in North America in the full-year 2017 totaled 1,607,640 units, up 5.7 percent from 2016. Sales of vehicles manufactured overseas in 2017 totaled 469,330 units, up 1.4 percent from 2016.
