Canadian iron ore shipments up 30.6 percent in December

According to Natural Resources Canada, shipments of iron ore in December 2018 totaled 5,095,520 mt, a 30.6 percent increase from November and a 20.5 percent increase from December 2017. Of that total, 494,401 mt was shipped to Canadian customers, while 4,601,119 mt was exported.

For the full-year 2018, Canadian iron ore shipments totaled 50,970,923 mt, up 16.4 percent from 2017. Of that total, 4,247,452 mt was shipped to Canadian customers while 46,723,471 mt was exported.

Canadian iron ore stocks at the end of December totaled 4,928,258 mt, down 0.6 percent from November levels but up 98.3 percent from levels in December 2017.
