Canada’s February export-import figures

The exports of goods from Canada in February 2005 reflected a 1.4% increase from January 2005 to C$36.5 billion ($29.5 billion). Export volume rose 0.5% while prices increased 0.9%. On the other hand, imports to Canada reached C$31.7 billion in February, a 0.2% drop-off from January's record high. The increase in exports and decrease in imports helped push the country's February trade surplus to C$4.8 billion, from C$4.3 billion in January. Exports of industrial goods and materials rose 1.7% to C$7.1 billion in February, while exports of automotive products rose 0.6% to C$7.6 billion in February. This is the third consecutive month the latter industry saw an increase. Within this figure, exports of trucks and other motor vehicles increased 1.9% to C$1.2 billion, while auto parts advanced 1.2% to C$2.4 billion. Exports of passenger autos and chasses remained stable at C$4.0 billion. Imports of automotive products fell 3.2%, and imports of metals and metal ores fell 2.6%. Imports of chemicals and plastics saw a 0.6% increase to reach a record level of C$2.4 billion. This marked the third consecutive month of growth for chemicals and plastics.
